Pricing up the iPad Pro

Pricing up the iPad Pro

The iPad Pro is due to land on Australian shores sometime in the next couple weeks. Based on the price difference between $USD and $AUD on similar Apple products[1] , these are my estimates on pricing:

iPad Pro Models:

  • iPad Pro 32GB Wifi just $1,099
  • iPad Pro 128GB Wifi just $1,299
  • iPad Pro 128GB Wifi + Cellular just $1459

Accessories:

  • Smart Keyboard for iPad Pro just $259
  • Apple Pencil for iPad Pro just $159

At these price points, I can see users moving up from a 10" iPad to the iPad Pro, but I don’t envision many people moving down from a MacBook. There’s just too many tradeoffs with moving from Mac OS to iOS that are hard to justify at these prices, when comparing with Macs at similar prices.

UPDATE Turns out I was a bit under for the iPad Pro models, but almost bang on for the accessories.

  1. $AUD iPad prices = $USD pricing, add 35.5% (average price difference between US Apple store and AUS Apple store for iPads), then rounded up to the prettiest number. $AUD iPad Pro accessory prices = $USD pricing, add 51.5% (average price difference between US Apple Store and AUS Apple Store for new release peripherals), then rounded up to the prettiest number.  ↩
